while we’re being honest is a series of poems developed over the last ten years. It arose out of intense personal experiences in which poetry served as the only medium of relief and expression. Exploring the relationship between first loves and heartbreak, faith and doubt, this collection magnifies the mental and emotional transformation that occurs from adolescence to adulthood.

The title stems from the work’s unflinching approach to reflecting on life’s gifts and difficulties. Through its vulnerable transparency, the collection asks the reader to go in with an open-mind and to have a willingness to forgive certain harsh truths. Like peeking into someone’s personal diary, While We’re Being Honest offers the opportunity see connection and find humanity in the beautiful and the ugly.

Jasmine White was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama but moved to the Washington, D.C. area to attend Georgetown University. She currently works as a high school English teacher in Maryland. While We’re Being Honest is her first chapbook.
