Prose, chapbook, 36 pages, from Bottlecap Features.

Ernestine Boggs takes a solitary walk beneath the desert sun. Her beloved dog, Cheryl, has passed out of this world, and Ernestine attempts to memorialize her by marking every path they walked together with photos encased in steel frames. She ponders many things: the perpetual discomfort of being alive; Cheryl’s covert interstellar destiny; the mysterious bond between disgraceful primates and outcast wolves that has so consumed her life. Subsequently, she finds herself traversing a mysterious building, summoned by a threatening missive and lured by the promise of a reunion with Cheryl. There, baffled and thwarted by labyrinthine bureaucracy, in search of her dog, she may be transformed.

My Home Is Not There is a story about humans and dogs. It is philosophical in its analytical probing into that bond; it is also mystical, invoking the most intense and potentially transcendent experience.

Daniel David Froid is a writer who lives in Phoenix, Arizona. His stories have been published in venues such as Lightspeed, Nightmare, Post Road, Black Warrior Review, and The Masters Review and nominated for the Pushcart Prize and the Wigleaf Top 50.
