Poetry, chapbook, 16 pages, from Bottlecap Features.

A pinky finger is made for promises, a brief joining that endures in the head and heart. Pinky is both a light shade of color and the littlest digit, but in that gentleness there is something sacred. The poetry collection Pinky Finger explores how fleeting links and impressions can leave deep imprints, and considers what in the connections we make is frail, fraught, soft, or sweet.

Exploring the tactile nature of both imagined worlds and real memories, the poems of Pinky Finger use physical forms to expose a subject’s intangible and emotional sides. Often addressed to an unnamed “you,” they invite each reader to engage closely with the textures, relationships, and desires at play. In works on the hands and body, nature, and everyday mundanities, this chapbook features both the sensory details and careful observations of a girl reaching out to touch and feel the world around her.

Clara Johnk is a twenty year old writer from Portland, OR. She studies creative writing and photography at Emerson College in Boston, where she reads for the award-winning Emerson Review literary magazine and takes photos for the Emerson Green Magazine. Other small pleasures of her world include her dog Finn, Adrianne Lenker, and things that are the color blue.
