The poems in the blue door display a perceptive awareness of both the simple and the sacred aspects of the countryside. From small gardens to the wild woodlands, the poet takes pleasure in the most modest inhabitants of the natural world but chooses to capture them in moments of profound reflection that reveal a philosophic appreciation for the places in which we live.

s. m. foran has a Master of Arts in English and a Ph.D. in Mythological Studies and has been teaching literature and creative writing for almost thirty years. He currently works at Montreat College in North Carolina and lives in Black Mountain with his wife and two sons. He has had poems and short stories appear in a wide variety of literary publications, including Carmina Magazine, Arboreal Literary Magazine, Euphony Journal, Metonym, Between, and Portfolio North, and is also the author of a collection of poems, recently wise, and a collection of short stories, Bite of the Bacchae and Other Stories. His most recent collection, a reader’s miscellany, was published with Bottlecap Press in 2024.
