Lies for Lovers is a collection that explores why humans love and lose it through its brash and tactile prose poems. The narrator (a braver offshoot of the author) takes the reader through thirteen summonings into her past relationships and the people she’s become for and because of them. These poems dive into the collective past to find camaraderie in the millenia of people who came into this world in search of love and belonging, only to find the task of navigating the self and the other too much to manage alone. This collection reflects the grief found from growing out of love and into oneself, and a visceral embrace when the commitment we make to ourselves is broken again and again.

Delaney Sweet is a writer with one foot in her hometown of Omaha, Nebraska and her apartment in New York City. She received an MFA in Writing from Sarah Lawrence College and is currently working toward her masters in Irish Literature and Folklore. Her work has been published in The Hunger, Beyond Words, Prometheus Dreaming, and Sad Girl Lit. Lies for Lovers is her first chapbook.
