Halley Kunen aims to resonate with readers with her writing in connection to the natural world and relationship. Halley studied environmental studies at Naropa University and cultivated her contemplative practice and connection with the environment. Having trouble connecting with others she often leaned on nature and spirituality during her time in Boulder. An intense introvert and passionate ponderer of relationships, she quietly let the dynamics percolate for her until they seeped into her poetry, comprising much of Permineralized Remains.

In the past couple years, living in New York City, she gazed at the sky often ruminating over the events she’d been through, and in the clouds stumbled on symbolism both personal and more broad that inspired much of this work. Permineralized Remains covers many intense subjects such as abortion, addiction and grief. Committing just as much to diction and wordplay as the meaning behind these poems, she hopes these poems reverberate for you in times of isolation and desperation like a heartbeat.

Halley Kunen has been writing poems since she was thirteen, in a combination of little notebooks and in the side of margins of her school books. She wrote more sporadically in her 20’s, but discovered a literary community in Denver, Stain’d, when she was 30 that inspired her to get her pen moving. A huge music lover, lyrics have influenced her writing as much as poetry. Some of her biggest poetry influences have been Sylvia Plath, Emily Dickinson, and Edgar Allen Poe. She is currently working with seniors including leading them in sing-a-long, and living in New York City for the time being.
