Poetry, chapbook, 44 pages, from Bottlecap Features.

To Become the Room You Are Standing In is an exploration of the experience of loss and the growth it inevitably spurs. It is a chronicle and a reconstruction of a series of traumatic events; written partly during the events themselves, and partly as a reflection months later, this chapbook offers a unique chronology of trauma and healing.

The title of the work alludes to the desperate need to escape that is felt in the body during moments of great distress; many of the poems contained within are a snapshot of this occurrence and offer a direct look into the fragmented nature of memory and experience. To this end, much of the work explores the interaction between bodily and sense memory and seeks to make sense of events through a slow and intentional dissection.

Drew Peaches (they/them) is a poet and musician hailing from the Pacific Northwest. Drew received a BA from The Evergreen State College in 2020 and has remained among the trees of Olympia, Washington ever since. They love walks, their cats, everyone in their life, and a great many other things.
