Poetry, chapbook, 28 pages, from Bottlecap Features.

In Nature Over Empire, Heylu remembers ancestors and timeless friends, who are powerful symbols in her life. She also writes of observing injustices from the comfort of the belly of the beast. How will the dragonfly larvae fare in polluted muck? Or, did you find the blue jay’s feather she left for you on the forest trail?  Take this book to a sleepover, or a quiet meadow and enjoy.

Heylu Wheat is a poet and artist who grew up watching animals in a loving home in Buffalo, NY. She once built a nest in her backyard for a duck couple that was passing by, and was unscathed when a baby rattlesnake fell onto her lap. Poetry feels to her like words simply flow out of a pipe and into her hands. She is interested in tipping the scales in favor of the people, not those hoarding gold. She enjoys dogs and horses, hiking, painting, parties, Halloween, fashion, abandoned buildings, and being romantic. Heylu currently resides in San Francisco, California. She visits beaches with binoculars to observe the seals and birds.
