Poetry, chapbook, 32 pages, from Bottlecap Features.

Approaching Equinox is a paean to nature. Laced with anticipatory grief at all we have to lose, the collection nonetheless insists that we hold on to beauty. Here is a vision of how to nurture our wounded relationship with the natural world and deepen our humanity in the face of disaster.

These poems ask, what if being uprooted by catastrophe were an opportunity to plant new seeds? What if we could grow something more vulnerable and abundant, an intricate attention to spider tunnels in the snow and the way sunsets are rendered more beautiful by the haze of wildfire smoke. The night was already lit by stars before we drowned them. Approaching Equinox invites us to open our eyes to the coming dark and welcome what awakens.

Stephanie Sesic teaches college writing and is happiest when dancing under the sky or visiting her favorite trees in the Cuyahoga Valley. Her work has been published recently by Gordon Square Review, Bell Press, Channel, The Sunlight Press, and Coastal Shelf. Her chapbook, The Intimate Verge, was published by Pudding House Publications in 2008.
