Poetry, chapbook, 24 pages, from Bottlecap Features.

Have you ever heard someone say they’re “so OCD”? What does it mean to be OCD? To be held firmly in the clutches of obsession? It might look a little different than you think. I’ve Heard This One Before is a short series of poems about what it is like to share a life with obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Some poems written prior to diagnosis in a fog of confusion, others written years later, this small chapbook spans nearly six years of a terrifying disorder – one that feels like being condemned to push a boulder up a hill for all eternity. But there is hope, too, on the page and off. I’ve Heard This One Before is Alexis Renata’s first chapbook.

Alexis Renata writes fiction and poetry. Her work appears or is forthcoming in Asimov’s Science Fiction, boats against the current, and Strange Horizons. When she isn’t writing, she is studying to become a mental health therapist. Originally from the Pacific Northwest, she now lives in San Diego, California.
