"Take a walk in the wilderness with Olga Trubetskoy as your friend and guide in these fleeting meditations on a graceful cosmos that enfolds us in mercy where and as we are. Shadows and light play on shimmering fish scales that merge with reflections of dancing trees in the still cool presence of speckled rocks resting like mute frogs on dappled river bottoms. Waterbugs sport valiantly on the surface tensions of swirling lake waters: a miracle which almost no one pauses to marvel upon.
Clouds find their voices through heraldic peepings of great flocks of migrating white tundra swans. Autumn leaves are golden boats that carry us into the beyond and fluffy white cottonwood seeds bestowing their lavish grace upon everyone.
Tall prairie grasses form castles of unknown kingdoms.Their seeds travel on the winds as mystic explorers. They (and we by way of identification) go where life takes us in these naturalist’s gypsy songs about traveling as a way of being still and belonging, and vice versa.
One water lily blooms like a star at the bottom of a pool of muddy water and only the most tender and fragile flowers survive hailstorms. Perhaps it is true that the meek shall inherit the earth.
Layers of meaning are revealed upon reading and re-reading these gentle poems. The reader is invited to slow down and look through the poet’s invisible camera obscura where sparks of resilience and beauty are revealed through a revolving kaleidoscope of seasons and life."
