A Kinkade Above the Toilet is a small but mighty collection that soars with humor, showcasing aerial views of poetry’s most unfound places just to drop you, let you fall, and pick you back up. A ninety-year-old saloon regular gives way to the apocalypse, where a noseless and noiseless clown joins a cult. A McDonald’s with a single arch welcomes a baby who can already say “Otherwise,” and a camel refuses her young in the wake of a Shoe Carnival sock choir so that a chin can dance.

These poems, while filled with play, remain firm in their emotional sincerity. Joy is never any less serious than sadness. Let these take you to the nameless country between love and loss. Let their surrealist charm sweep you up.

Liv Campbell is a poet and educator from Houston, Texas. She eventually moved to NYC after graduating from the University of Evansville in Indiana, where, in her spare time between auditions, exams, and shows, she wrote poetry and performed at open mics in random basements.
