The fourteen poems that make up Bite Comparison Study were largely written within the summer of 2025, and explore landscapes spanning Vermont, the American South, and the high plains of the West. This collection is a mosaic that is lyrical and also expository at times, borrowing dream logic to report the weather, or using notes from a doctor’s appointment to make sense of a fantasy.

A bite comparison study is an evaluation of impressions— their depth, their sharpness, their place in time— that uses bodily experience to construct meaning. This selection of poems by Hannah Carpino is both forensic and painfully visceral, measuring how long a memorial can live in the body or the land.

Hannah Carpino is a poet and short story writer living in Colorado. Bite Comparison Study is her first chapbook-length collection. Her poems have previously been published in Stoneboat Literary Journal, the Inflectionist Review, Hobart, and more.
