Dance as a Means of Ceasing to be an I is a series of poems that is really one long continuous poem, a tiny emerald pool from the river of continual experience. It is an attempt to use words to describe the wordlessness of music as earth-based medium bringing sex, color, chaos, tragic beauty, and the ephemerality of holiness through the body as memory.

This circular track of pictorial yearning is documented as a means of moving beyond what it means to be an individual, in order to voluntarily (or involuntarily) go back again.

Elizabeth Mayo is a multidisciplinary artist who uses the tension between transience and elements of the natural environment to gain creative insight. Most recently she finds herself in between Stockton and Oakland California. She attended Pratt Institute for one year before leaving to dedicate her life to her work while living in the unfinished basement underneath Black Spring Books in Brooklyn. Elizabeth has a painting portfolio which can be seen at elizabethmayoart.com, and is currently recording an album of music with her band, which she writes all the words to.
