Prose, poetry, chapbook, 28 pages, from Bottlecap Features.

Departures is Elisa Subin's debut chapbook. Its poems and stories are about leaving, and who and what we leave behind. Departures is about death and abandonment. But it's also about shag carpet and mustard-colored sofas, red scarves and cheap plastic flowers. It's even about the pizza delivery guy.

Departures will take you on a half-haunted journey of transformation where an ordinary tissue becomes a work of art and a leap off the roof is a cure for boredom. In these poems and stories, Elisa Subin melds the people we know with the people we imagine and peels back the layers to reveal the universality of loneliness.

Elisa Subin is a writer who grew up in New York. Her work has appeared in The Account: A Journal of Poetry, Prose, and Thought, The Inflectionist Review, Not One of Us, and 34 Orchard Literary Journal, among others. She won an Honorable Mention in the Reuben Rose Poetry Competition and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net. If you're looking for her, you'll probably find her driving slowly on the interstate or drinking a gin and tonic at the beach.
