From Mud & Ash: The Parts You Didn’t See is a voice driven chapbook that follows an emotional arc of love, loss, and self-reclamation. Structured in four sections: Burn, Bruise, Break, and Bloom, the collection moves through intimacy and desire, heartbreak and abandonment, anxiety and grief, and the slow, often messy process of healing. These poems speak honestly about what it means to lose yourself and to learn how to find yourself again, piece by piece.

Ultimately, it is a book about survival and growth; about what remains after everything falls apart. Each poem is inspired from the author’s personal experiences and finds hope, not in grand gestures, but in the small act of choosing oneself.

Misa Doi is a Los Angeles-based creative who uses art and words to reflect on personal experiences. Her work centers on emotional vulnerability, mental health, grief and self-resilience.
