Let the Lightning Annnounce Itself is a collection of poetry exploring the surreality of raising a sensitive soul in this broken-open world. It centers single motherhood in its proper context of awe and overwhelm, finding what wonder it can amongst lockdown drills and lightning alarms. It reminds the reader that parents are perpetual students, pupils of the elements that arranged themselves into our children.

As such, Let the Lightning Announce Itself is an ode to the transformation inherent in any act of creation, and the imagination necessary to sustain life.

Jessica Lee is a poet, memoirist, only child, and mother. Past hats worn include mortician’s apprentice, social worker, efficient but non-chatty waitress, nanny and retail-store owner. She currently works as a copywriter and website administrator and lives with her son in Austin, Texas. This is her first official collection of personal poetry.
