Pronounce Experiment is a chapbook of experimental literature by an emerging poet. While profoundly intellectual, this work is also human, and dwells in a place of intersectionality between person and environment, culture and nature. Pronounce Experiment works to explore language as an art and science. This is also a deeply personal experiment in experiences of living out west, of the beauty and precariousness of interactions with each other and environment. This chapbook focuses on language in exchange, especially the ways in which our lifestyles, communication and culture have intermingled and work together.
This project is most of all about western life, communication and living in what was once Mexican territory. Amelia works to honor the vibrant past of this place, and believes no human is illegal, that borders have harmed more than just people and that we need to feel comfortable interacting with each other. Pronounce Experiment works to respect cultural space and to create gaps for inclusive and real working conversation, especially about our languages, intelligence and OUR land.
