Poetry, chapbook, 20 pages, from Bottlecap Features.

Music and poetry have been dancing together since the earth has been spinning; an eternal marriage that can never be annulled. As a life-long music fanatic of all genres, I have always been fascinated and inspired by the lyrics of so many musicians, from all eras. From Robert Johnson to DMX –with stops along the way to hang with Jimi, Marley, Townes, Sinatra – these poems are not about the musicians themselves, per say – but rather, tiny snip-its of life, love, and loss – set to a playlist, of sorts.

The Beatles started it all for me- leading me on a life long quest to devour music, poetry, and all manner of the arts in general. This project was fun to write. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Give a fresh listen to some of these artists; they are deserving of your time and attention. A shout out to Robert Johnson-he started it all, and the least I could do is open the book with a poem that is about him, for him.

Cathy Porter’s poetry has appeared in Plainsongs, Trajectory, California Quarterly, Conceit Magazine, Avalon Literary Review, and various other journals. She has several chapbooks available from Finishing Line Press, Maverick Duck Press, Dancing Girl Press, as well as several Pushcart Prize nominations. She lives in Omaha, NE with her husband and one crazy Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix (Marley -yes, for Bob) and two equally crazy cats.
