Poetry, chapbook, 28 pages, from Bottlecap Features.

In a world where humans and nature are seemingly at odds with each other, Ryan Carey aims to navigate the area in-between, and find beauty in the decay. With descriptions of nature overtaking machinery, cosmic desire, and endless, circling apparatuses, SOLARPUNK is an attempt to understand the universe through opposing forces. Filled to the brim with cutting language alongside gentle, nostalgic imagery, this poetry chapbook represents life, and death, in all its beauty and ugliness.

Ryan’s affinity for horror and science fiction bleeds into this striking poetry debut. They love poetry that cuts deep; Meditations on climate change, the end of the world, the guilt of pleasure, and the feeling of love that persists after death. With each word, Ryan wants to unravel the universe and put it back together.

Ryan L. Carey studied creative writing and publishing at Emerson College, and is currently living in New York. Ryan’s fiction and poetry has been published with Nor’Easter Publishers, Generic Magazine, The Underground Literary Magazine, Wack Magazine, 365 Tomorrows, and elsewhere. Their short story “Shells” was Honorable Mention from L. Ron Hubbard’s Writers of the Future Contest in 2025, and they are currently an editor for Zoetic Press.
